URBAN AG NEW MEXICO
More Than Raised Beds
Urban Ag Isn't Just Las Cruces, Albuquerque, and Santa Fe, either.
It's Taos. It's Grants. It's Las Vegas. It's Alamogordo. It's every community that doesn't fit neatly into the "urban" box but wants the same high-profile funding, partnerships, and dignity.

Soil / Suelo. Before we build anything—a garden, a system, a plan—we dig a hole. We look at the soil profile, the structure, the roots, the layers. We read the land the way it reads us. This is what SWAPA+HE looks like in practice: experts in the field

Water / Agua. Water is the driver. Sediment is the vehicle. And when erosion goes unchecked, both end up where they don't belong—clogging acequias, filling reservoirs, and carrying contaminants downstream. We monitor it. We measure it. We document it.

Air / Aire. Weather stations don't just tell you what the temperature is—they tell you what's coming. Wind speed. Humidity. Solar radiation. Precipitation. This is how we track the air that moves across your land, your crops, and your community.

Plants / Plantas. Plants are the anchors of the system. They lock soil in place with their roots—holding it against wind and water—and they feed it with the organic matter they return. We specialize in finding the right plants for your site.

Animals / Animales. Healthy soil is balancing microbes, fungi, invertebrates—management is what makes everything else possible. Here, our team helps understand the biological activity and Sandhill crane health for MRG Species Conservation.

Humans / Humanos. This is why we do the work. Not for the data alone, but for the people who inherit the land, the water, and the knowledge. Here, kids are exploring a watershed model—learning how water moves, how soil holds, and how everything connect

Energy / Energía. From solar arrays to transmission lines to the oil and gas that still powers our grid, energy is what keeps the lights on and the tractors running. We employ energy and agriculture sector experts who understand both sides of the equat

About
Creating an urban ag program for the 5th largest state in the nation comes with its challenges. So does implementing urban ag across the Western U.S. in general.Which is why we've been building a 14-state partner network that provides the breadth and context to what's working and what's not when it comes to Western land use and conservation policies.Whether you're from Big Vegas, NV or the original Vegas, NM, conservation shouldn't be a gamble. This is a glimpse at the people, tools and frameworks we employ to manage risk when betting your dirt and dollars with public or private conservation programs and more.
